Mary Quant

Hey Babes!
On my trip to California this summer, I saw a documentary about the mini-skirt. They claimed Mary Quant as the founder of the mini-skirt and the hot-pants.
This post I will part in two. First part about Mary Quant, and the second part about the mini-skirt as the trend it was and is.

Mary Quant was born the 11 of February 1934.
She was a British fashion designer and she became an icon. She encouraged youngs to wear what they wanted to, what pleased them.

Successful designs from this early period included small white plastic collars to brighten up sweaters and dresses, bright stockings in colours matched to her knitwear, men's cardigans made long enough to be worn as dresses, and a pair of "mad" lounging pyjamas made by Quant herself which were featured in Harper's Bazaar and purchased by an American manufacturer to copy
The miniskirt, described as one of the defining fashions of the 1960s, is one of the garments most widely associated with Quant. Whilst she is often cited as the inventor of the style, this claim has been challenged by others.
In the late 1960s, Quant popularised hot pants, becoming a British fashion icon.Through the 1970s and 1980s she concentrated on household goods and make-up, rather than just her clothing lines, including the duvet which she claims to have invented.
In 1963 Quant was the first winner of the Dress of the Year award.

Mary Quant opened Bazaar, a boutique on the King's Road, in 1955 at a time when 'fashion wasn't designed for young people'. Quant was influenced by Chelsea beatniks and dance outfits she remembered from childhood. Famed for popularising, if not inventing, the mini skirt, her clothes were made up of simple shapes combined with strong colours. By 1963 her success led to the opening of a second branch of Bazaar in Knightsbridge. She later launched the Ginger Group, a lower priced line designed to appeal to an even wider clientele.

The mini skirt:
The freedom to wear a short dress or skirt. Before all dresses and skirts had hemlines under the knee. The popularity of miniskirts peaked in the "Swinging London" of the 1960s, but its popularity is since still commonplace among many women, mostly teenagers, preteens, and young adults. Before that time, short skirts were only seen in sport clothing, such as skirts worn by female tennis players, figure skaters, and cheerleaders.
The miniskirt was further popularized by André Courrèges who developed it separately and incorporated it into his Mod look, for spring/summer 1965. His miniskirts were less body-hugging, and worn with the white "Courrèges boots"
